Beneath the Skin is a one-hour contemporary choreographic work.

Rooted in choreographer Wen Chuan's long-term exploration of the relationship between the body and the human psyche, the work transforms personal lived experience into creative material, gradually developing a distinctive physical language. Inspired by the I Ching's philosophy of change (Bian Yi), the work approaches it as a creative methodology for understanding bodily transformation rather than a literal philosophical interpretation. Through movement, the work follows the body as it passes through disorder, tension, fragmentation, and renewal, exploring how the body loses connection with itself and how movement becomes a pathway to reconnect with one's inner experience. Within the black box theatre, a monumental blue shroud moves alongside the performers, continuously transforming into boundaries, concealment, and shifting landscapes. Through pulling, support, imbalance, and transformation, the performers reveal the body's inner momentum, reflecting the delicate tension between external order and inner life.

Rather than offering answers, Beneath the Skin invites audiences to witness the body's continual transformation and encounter the lived experiences that remain hidden Beneath the Skin.
